In your first Hackathon module, you will apply the knowledge you've gained from Phase 1 (Modules 1-4) to develop a practical solution for a challenge or opportunity that's relevant to your role and workplace. This experience will allow you to practice and refine skills that you will need to successfully complete your Work-Based Project, report, and presentation.

In this 60-minute workshop, you will introduce apprentices to what is covered in the Module, how they can apply those skills on the job, and what they will complete for their work based project.

By the end of this workshop, apprentices will be able to:

  • Identify the skills they will learn in the module and how they can apply them to their roles
  • Understand the elements of the module and how they fit together

Workshop 1: Designing ethical ML solutions####Workshop overview

In this 1 hour workshop, you’ll explore the full machine learning lifecycle, learn how to spot and address ethical and compliance issues, evaluate model performance to ensure it meets business goals fairly, and design technical solutions that turn business needs into effective, well-managed ML projects.

By the end of this workshop, apprentices will be able to:

  • Analyze the stages of the machine learning lifecycle to identify ethical considerations and regulatory compliance.
  • Evaluate performance metrics to ensure the proposed ML model effectively meets business needs and promotes fairness.
  • Design machine learning engineering solutions that translate business requirements into technical specifications, incorporating project management techniques for successful implementation.

Workshop 2: Ethical and sustainable practices in cloud platforms####Workshop overview

In this 1 hour workshop, you’ll learn to design ML solutions that tackle ethical and sustainability challenges, reflect on your own role in promoting these practices at work, and create an actionable plan to embed ethical, sustainable approaches into your daily tasks and wider organizational goals.

By the end of this workshop, apprentices will be able to:

  • Apply ethical and sustainable machine learning principles to real-world scenarios, demonstrating the ability to design solutions that address ethical challenges and promote sustainability in ML projects.
  • Reflect on personal roles and responsibilities, identifying opportunities to integrate ethical and sustainable practices into daily tasks and decision-making processes within the organization.
  • Develop a comprehensive action plan to implement ethical and sustainable ML practices, setting specific goals for collaboration, continuous improvement, and alignment with organizational sustainability objectives.
